The NARGC Compensation Fund
Ireland’s foremost source of Public Liability and Personal Accident Protection for Hunters, Clay Shooters, Target Shooters and others who are Members of our affiliated Clubs.
The N.A.R.G.C. Compensation Fund has been in existence since 1984. In this period, it has earned an enviable record not matched by any similar entity in the State. The Fund is naturally biased towards shooting (with shotguns, rifles, and pistols) and fishing and of course the farming community without whose support and co-operation the sport of shooting and fishing has little prospect of either success or continuity.
Membership of the Fund grew widely from its inception and national membership now stands at just over 24,000. These Members constitute 965 Clubs in the Rep. of Ireland, mostly based at parish level. This level of membership makes the N.A.R.G.C. one of the largest sporting organisations in the country, second only to the GAA.
The National Association of Regional Game Councils encourages game shooters and clay/target shooters to support the shooting lobby by joining a Gun/Game Club, Clay Pigeon Club or Target Sports Club affiliated to the NARGC. With 24,000 Members, you will be joining the most authoritative voice for the sport of shooting in Ireland. You will also enjoy the protection of the NARGC Compensation Fund which carries a ceiling of protection of €10m, each and every claim. The Association welcomes the affiliation of new Clubs through its Regional Game Council (RGC) structure.
All aspects of the protections afforded by the Fund, are supported by policies of insurance from licensed insurance providers. Since the inception of the Fund, all but a handful of recent claims have been fully discharged. Specifically, the Fund has received just under 2,500 claims since it commenced in 1984 and of these, a singular number remain to be discharged. The cost of discharged claims to date is just under €10m. Quite apart from these claim payments, the Fund has amassed significant assets which are ring-fenced solely for the purposes of the Fund and are invested in capital guaranteed Bank Bonds and similar sources of guaranteed investment.
