Press Release 13th January 2018

The National Association Regional Game Councils in conjunction with one of its affiliates, the County Wicklow Regional Game Council, are disgusted at the criminal act where 3 Sika Deer part of a Christmas Display at Djouce Golf Club where killed and stolen.

We would like to express our outrage that this would happen and urge anyone with information to go to An Gardai Siochana. Rural crime needs to be tackled but needs the support of the whole community, the Gardai and other relevant Government Agencies.

I have had many discussions with concerned members in various counties, in particular Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare since this incident. The general feeling is that night time shooting has been unjustly attacked by the statements coming from the Sports Coalitions. These are opportunistic and unwarranted and is a clear attempt by a lobbying group to further push through their agenda of having night time shooting effectively banned.

Let us be very clear, the Sports Coalition do not represent the 25,000 NARGC members contrary to their recent press release claiming quasi representative status.

The NARGC strongly believe that rural crime should be addressed through proper allocation of Garda resources and focusing on and addressing the uncontrolled manner where game is sold to some dealers.

While we will continue to defend the legitimate shooting community we welcome consultation with An Gardai Siochana, National Parks and Wildlife Service and Community groups to help stamp out rural crime/poaching.
