THE N.A.R.G.C. NATIONAL CLAYSHOOT – 2016
9th July 2016 - 10th July 2016
We are now just a short few days away from the NARGC National Clay Shoot which is being held this year in the Grounds of Ardee Sports Ltd., Pepperstown, Ardee, Co. Louth. For those of you who are Satnav tech. heads, the co-ordinates are 53.891585, -6.537950. We have held this annual event in Mullingar for a number of years now so a change of scenery will do everyone good. Besides, an enormous number of people came to us and requested a change. As most know, the grounds in Ardee are spacious and well tried and tested not alone with previously held NARGC National Shoots but otherwise as well.
The Shoot has been scheduled for next Saturday, July 9th and Sunday, July 10th so meantime say your prayers for fine weather because the vibes are not great presently.
We have a few small changes this year concerning the days on which certain disciplines are held and this has been done for administrative reasons, taking cognisance of the number of shooters in each discipline and our desire to split the overall number shooting, into the two days, as evenly as possible. Believe me it is no easy task coping with 646 shooters (that’s the number now booked in) over 2 very busy days. The new schedule of disciplines reads as follows:
Saturday, July 9th 2016:
- County Teams Competition.
- Training License Holder’s Competition
- Under 21’s Competition
(Note the U21’s and the T. L. Holders shoot after the County Teams have concluded – roughly about 3pm)
Sunday, July 10th 2016:
- Club Teams Competition
- Ladies Competition
- Side by Side Competition
- Veteran’s Competition
- Super Veteran’s Competition
(Note all disciplines from each RGC shoot at the same time on this date).
Shooting on both days commences at 9.00 a.m. sharp. The Timetables are:

We have excellent on-site catering facilities operating from 07.30 hrs. onwards each day. The NARGC wishes to acknowledge the generous sponsorship of Ardee Sports Ltd. Lakelands Shooting Grounds and Rizzini Firearms. The Pool event this year will have as first prize, a beautiful Rizzini Fierce No. 1 Sporter shotgun valued at €3,640.00 or, if you prefer a game gun, a Rizzini Aurum with a value of €3,100.00 and then, in addition, there will be a plethora of other generous prizes too.
Locally, accommodation is at a premium so book now if you’re staying around.
Everything is now in place for this major annual event which is the hallmark event in the NARGC’s annual calendar. We are certainly looking forward to being back in Ardee with great enthusiasm and excitement and we know that David and Martin Brennan and their team of workers and helpers will do this event proud. Where else in Ireland would you find almost 650 shooters participating over just 2 days. And besides the seriousness of the competitions, the craic otherwise is mighty and it’s a great forum for making new friends and renewing old acquaintances so, see you there !
