Patrick (Pat) Donlon, Portrun, Ballymurray, Co. Roscommon
It is with deep and profound regret that we announce the unexpected passing of a stalwart National Executive Member of the NARGC – Mr. Patrick (Pat) Donlon, Portrun, Ballymurray, Co. Roscommon. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Pat, as he was affectionately known was, right up to the day he died, an unrelenting and totally committed Member of the NARGC’s National Executive Committee (NEC), totally committed to the principles for which the NARGC stands. Pat was first elected to the NEC in 2011 and served without any break in tenure ever since.
A most popular man, Pat was quiet and softly spoken with maybe fewer words as compared to more vocal NEC Members but when Pat spoke, he spoke with passion, loyalty and a profound sense of where his thoughts and feelings truly lay. He could quietly sense the good from the bad and echoed caution when and wherever he felt this was necessary.
Pat was one of the keenest hunters in the NARGC with fox hunting being his most significant focus. He hunted widely adrift of the fields around Portrun and could be as easily found with his gun and cap in Cavan or Leitrim as much as in Roscommon.
We tender our heartfelt sympathy to his wife Agnes, his daughter Elaine and
his son Patrick who will all be devastated at their loss. Truly in this instance,
our collective loss is Heaven’s gain.
