3rd Game Tasting Night – Keeping Pace…
Saturday last 5th March 2016 Bennettsbridge Game and Conservation Gun Club ran another successful Game Tasting Night in the Lalor’s Corner House Pub Bennettsbridge. The evening was well attended by over 120 patrons of Bennettsbridge and Tullaherin Parish, and many from further afield – the reputation of our craic, hospitality and fine-dining is gaining traction – with social media ‘likes’ go lór!
Bennettsbridge Game and Conservation Gun club would like to thank other field sports organisations and clubs for supporting us, such as Wild Deer Association of Ireland (WDAI), Kilkenny Shooting & Conservation Council (KS&CC), members of Yellow road – Castlecomer, Baillie borough – County Cavan, Sligo (the tiny fella) and Ballycallan Gun Clubs.
Bennettsbridge Game and Conservation Gun club would like to take this opportunity to express our ‘thanks and gratitude’ to our participating landowners and farmers for their continual access and support over the past years.
The food, Bennettsbridge Game and Conservation Gun club is blessed to have amongst our midst a pair of fine culinary chefs namely Gráinne and Laurence Somers, greatly assigned by Grainne’s mother Carmel Monks. All attending benefited from their hard work and extensive knowledge of their Game selection, preparation and cooking. The food was divine and for many attending some new tastes of native Wild Game.
Have you ever tasted game? Well let me tell you what we shared and you missed!
- Southern fried fur “Rabbit dippers” and Roulade of Wild Boar (from Ballinwillin House),
- Succulent Wild Pulled Venison – Slow Braised Venison served on a floury – Bap with smoked hickory sauce & crisp salad leaf,
- Wild Venison Burgers,
- Game Bird Coq Au Vin style – Braised Pheasant with medley of vegetables & herbs in a rich red wine broth,
- All served with champ mash & a selection of salads.
Did we mention the Venison burgers, well we thought 120 would have been enough, alas we were pleasantly surprised they flew off the BBQ and with many patrons availed of a few helpings such was their delight.
The overall nightly ambient was tastefully delivered by musicians Manus Crowley and James Savage of the Rolling Waves with a lovely repertoire of music talently delivered.
We would like to express our special thanks to Gráinne and Laurence Somers, Carmel and Pat Monks, and John and Eileen Lalor.
We would like to recognise and thank our extensive list of sponsors and donators of spot prizes:-
Bennettsbridge Game and Conservation Gun Club is currently lead by Chairman Killian Hennessy, Treasurer Mark Raggett, Secretary Eoin Wemyss and committee members Damien Raggett, Laurence & Gráinne Somers, Tom Leacy, Liam Bookle, and John Grace.
Till next year.
