Dear Members and Friends,
On behalf of the NARGC National Executive Committee, our Trustees, Chris, Margaret and myself, I would like to take this moment to reflect on the year we have had and express our sincerest wishes for you, your family and your friends. We all hope that you have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Chris Gavigan and Margaret Cox for another year of their dedicated work and continued support. I would also like to recognise the hard work of our National Executive, the very many Sub Committees, our legal and financial teams and our county based projects involved in partridge, grouse, curlew and many other fields. Without the continued hard work, support and dedication of these individuals we wouldn’t have achieved as much as we have.
The NARGC are committed to representing their members in Ireland and Europe on matters which affect them. We constantly aim to be in a position where we can influence and ensure the needs of our members are listened to. With that in mind, I would like to thank our Colleagues in FACE Ireland and FACE Europe with whom we work, especially Dr. David Scallan, all members of An Garda Síochána (who Chris liaises with on firearm related issues), all staff of the NPWS (National Parks and Wildlife Services) and the many Government departments/agencies we liaise with.
I would also like to take this opportunity to wish Heather Humphries all the best in her new role and thank her for the hard work in her role as Minister of the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. I wish Josepha Madigan best of luck in the new job.
The NARGC wish to be at the forefront of decision making on game and shooting sports to ensure all our associate members have a voice. We are committed to working with likeminded organisations to forward our aims and objectives where there is synergy between them, but we also have no problem putting up robust defenses on behalf of our members.
2018 will be a big year for the NARGC as will be celebrating our 50th year. We hope that all members will join in the celebrating this momentous occasion with us.
Although we will be celebrating, 2018 will undoubtedly bring more challenges but with the support you have shown to both myself and the Executive in 2017, I have no doubts we will overcome any hurdles put in front of us. I would like to reiterate that my Executive and I remain available to attend any county or club meetings to discuss any ongoing queries you may have. My phone number and email are available on the association’s website for anyone who wishes to contact me.
I would like to take a moment to remember our friends Margaret Neile, John Diver and Tina Sadler who passed away this year. I would also like to remember the other members of the NARGC who are gone to their eternal rest.
Finally, if, like me, you intended to head out for a shot during the Christmas by yourself, with your club, with friends, or indeed, all three of the above, please be careful and show utmost respect to our quarry whatever that may be.
Once again, may I wish you a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. I look forward to your continued support in 2018.
Yours in Sport,
